A gorgeous but cold day in the snow at Rutland Water today
Bewick Swan was at one end of the reserve and then it was the long walk to Goldeneye Hide at the other side of the reserve to see if I could catch with my fifth Lesser Yellowlegs of the last month. Before I could sit down someone informed that there was a grey phalarope right in front of the hide. By the time I had focused my binoculars the Yellowlegs was there beside the Phalarope and four Dunlin. Shortly afterwards someone else spotted a female Smew. Yes well worth the walk!
