I was out in a fishing boat yesterday between Spurn and Tetney and throughout the morning I kept seeing single bumble bees flying across the river and couldn't figure out why they would do this?

Hi John. Yes, I was down there the other day for a look-see. Will that be a public footpath on top of the bank on the west side running south from car park?
I have noted the bee quips but no one has come up with a reasoned answer. If they were bumble bees why would they abandon the hive, leave the area, migrate, cross a largish body of water, to go where and why. This is one of those weird observations that possibly no one has noticed before and it makes no sense to me even considering the very little I do know about bees.
The reply "to get to the other side" is not the attitude that Miles Hopper or Reg May would have given, great naturalists and observers, that reply is simply childish and what I have come to expect from Dave Bradbeer.

I certainly don't know the answer colin, but were they all going the same direction or back and forth?

Well George, we were angling and not really taking much notice of the direction the boat was pointing even though we were at anchor most of the time but I have a feeling it was a North to South movement. Next time I go out there I am going to try and catch one if they are still there and of course take more notice of direction. It was just odd to see bumble bees in the middle of the river, well, we were at the Humber mouth actually.
